When Steve and Kim Pankratz began their search for a baby seat for their son Jack, who was born with cerebral palsy, they quickly realized that finding a product that would support his posture was going to be a challenge. None of the floor seats available on the market at the time provided the proper support for Jack to sit upright with good posture. Determined to find a solution, Steve consulted with some of the leading physical therapists in North America, who suggested the use of a sitting wedge to encourage anterior pelvic tilt. This slight forward rotation of the pelvis helps to engage the muscles responsible for maintaining proper upright posture. Using this advice, Steve got to work creating prototypes of a baby seat with a forward tilt that would provide the support that Jack needed. He called this product the Upseat.
